Back to Coup d'Oeil

Feel It | Smell It | Hear It

In the book, The Franklin Affair, by Jim Lehrer, one of the characters, Wally Rush, says while speaking of art: “You must not just see a piece of art, you must also feel it, smell it, hear it, speak to it.” I would say the same for a photo: “You must not just see a photo, you must also feel it, smell it, hear it, speak to it.” That, of course speaks of the viewer.*

I would go one step further, I as the photographer-artist must also not just see the scene, I must feel it, smell it, speak to it, both before the image is shot, and during processing. It is only then that I can produce a true work of art. [Photo: “Smack” from “Reflections on Consumerism”]
